New York. May '25.—The Court column of the London Times recently contained u notice that tbo true ami real cause of the absence of tho Du-dieas of Edinburgh from the hist drawing-room reception was that Her Royal Highness had hopes of an event which would add to her happiness and that of the Duke—un announcement which would cause general joy through out tho kingdom. This statement, says the Loudon letter-writer, caused a great, buzz, but next morning there was Ktill greater buzzing when it \v:i-.i announced, by requett, that the authority for the courtly paragraph of the day beforo had been printed without the knowledge or permission of the Duke nf Edinburgh^.
New Yobk, May 29.—A London letter says of the statements in the 7'imen, in reference to the obvious cause of the nonappearance of the Dnohess of Edinburgh nt tho Queen's drawing-room, and the announcement the following morning that such a statement was in no way authorized by the Duke of Edinburgh: "It was plain to every one that snob an announcement as that in the Times v ould not have been put forth by the conductor of that journal on his own responsibility. It must, therefore, hare been what tho French call communique, and tho only question was by whom it could have been sent.
